The ACLU of Iowa and the Iowa Library Association will be hosting a Banned Books Week Trivia night across the state on Thursday, September 30 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Banned Books Week is observed annually in late September to celebrate the First Amendment and draw attention to the censorship of literature. The ACLU of Iowa is dedicated to preserving our First Amendment right to decide for ourselves what we read, view, and hear—a fundamental element of free speech and expression.

People can participate in the trivia contest as an individual or pull together a team of up to five people. They can participate via Zoom from home or in-person. (In-person teams must follow COVID protocols at their location.)

In-person locations include:

  • Cedar Falls - Rod Library, University of Northern Iowa
  • Charles City Public Library
  • Council Bluffs Public Library
  • Dubuque County Library - Asbury Branch
  • Sioux City Public Library
  • West Des Moines Public Library

In-person teams must register by midnight on Sunday, September 26. Zoom teams must register by noon on Thursday, September 30. Register here.

Admission is free, but donations are encouraged.
