We are living in harrowing times. Complicated, confusing, confounding times. Times unlike any other, or so it may seem. But the painful truth is that rights and liberties in this country have always been at risk and have always needed people like you and me—and for more than a century, the ACLU—to advance and defend.
In this series, we highlight the perspectives of five Iowans who remain determined and hopeful despite civil liberties setbacks in LGBTQ rights, access to books, voting, racial justice, and immigrant rights.
