What you need to know

1 in 3 women

Nearly 1 in 3 women will have an abortion in her lifetime.

9 facilities

There were 9 facilities providing abortions in Iowa in 2017.

About half

Medical abortions induced by taking pills make up about half of all abortions.

The ACLU of Iowa works to ensure Iowans can get the reproductive health care they need without shame, obstacles, or stigma.

Abortion in Iowa remains legal, but political attacks on that access have been chipping away a person's right to an abortion and making it more difficult. This is despite the fact that a majority of Iowans, 60 percent, support the right of a woman to get an abortion.

Our state needs more—not fewer—women’s health centers, access to affordable birth control, and protections for pregnant workers. We’re committed to fighting for reproductive freedom in Iowa through litigation, advocacy, and public education.
