Social Media Policy

The ACLU of Iowa welcomes vigorous debate and differing views in its social media accounts, including posts that disagree with our own views. However, as a non-governmental, private organization, we reserve the right to hide or delete posts, as well as to temporarily or permanently block users who engage in or contain the following:

• Threatening or suggesting violence or harm, directly or indirectly, to another person. In addition, we may report threats to appropriate authorities.
• Harassing or demeaning other people or groups of people, including but not limited to the basis of race, nationality, ethnicity, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, or disability.
• Obscenity.
• Spam and/or large volumes of repetitive content.
• Bot-like behavior.
• Advertisements, promotions, or solicitations of a commercial product or service.
• Confidential, personally identifying, or private information.

We may also turn off comments on some posts of a sensitive nature, posts that feature individuals, or posts in which the comments exceed a few hundred so that we are able to monitor comments effectively.

If you are requesting legal assistance, do not post those requests in our social media accounts. We will not respond to them in that way. Instead, please email legal.program@aclu-ia.org so that we can assure your confidentiality. We reserve the right to remove or hide requests for legal assistance.
